The view from the top of the lighthouse was beautiful, especially since we had a wonderful, clear day. The lighthouse keeper, Gene, was very pleasant and knowledgeable, as were all the other people working in the shop below. I thought this was an awesome idea and wish more lighthouses would do this, as we visit quite a few of them every year. The trip up was made much easier by the sponsors' plaques on every step, numbered conveniently from 1 to 228 and giving you your progress and motivation to keep going.
We all made it and loved it! It is the tallest lighthouse in the state of New Jersey (and third tallest in the whole country), so we knew it was going to be quite a climb. We just visited the Absecon Lighthouse this weekend and climbed to the top of it as a family (with three young children 9, 7 and 5).
